Deep Breath

On March 14, 2020, my mother-in-law and I flew home from her month-long European book tour, exhausted, our throats on fire, and sick as dogs. The next day the US shut down with COVID and my daughter ended up in the hospital with major health crisis.

So began a time of incredible upheaval, reframing priorities, and deep grounding.

My plans to travel and photograph ground to a halt, and I found myself photographing within the walls of my home and in nature. My husband was a patient muse but eventually I expanded my photo sessions to one-on-one in nature with friends who became part of our family pod.

I began a two-year journey of reflection, introspection, and mourning. I also cultivated intense gratitude and peace. The altars are dedicated to losses. The photographs of my daughter are a celebration of her renewed health. I grew to embrace impermanence and appreciate the wisdom of aging.
